Welcome

GRADS is like a classroom without walls. We help our students make connections in their community, find reliable information online and show them how to be lifelong learners throughout their parenting journey. There are also other methods of teaching our students without the traditional textbook. Follow my classroom blog as we stretch the boundaries of teaching and learning.

Teacher

I've been teaching Family and Consumer Sciences for 28 years and believe that our courses will help our students THRIVE (Teamwork, Healthy Living, Relationships, Independence, Vocation, Employment Skills).

For the past fifteen years I have enjoyed being a GRADS Coordinator, serving pregnant and parenting adolescents within several local school districts.  I'm a member of OATFACS/ACTE (Ohio Association Teachers of Family & Consumer Sciences). I have also been a member of FLAPEC  (Family Life and Parent Educators Coalition) since 2001 and served as chairwoman for this wonderful organization. Additionally, I have served on the Family & Child Development Advisory Council at University of Akron.

Some of my personal achievements include being a breast cancer survivor which encouraged me to become co-founder of  In This Together BCS, a growing organization that makes Hug Blankets for those battling cancer. I also have a passion for children's literacy which sparked my interest to become the author of  The ABC's of Reading to Your Child,  a handbook for young parents. I enjoy cooking for my family and have recently discovered food photography. Feel free to explore my blog, Recipes Sprinkled With Love.
